AOM: Activated Observer Meditation

  • CenterPeace Troy 2609 Crooks Road Troy, MI, 48084 United States (map)

About the event:

This unique class is a blend of ancient Eastern tradition (a 4,000 year old eyes-open meditation technique which involves a transmission of spiritual energy allowing for a rapid expansion in one's spiritual development) and non-dual meditation (experiencing the interconnectedness or oneness within everything). Each participant will receive this transmission (in seated position on a pillow or chair) while connecting to their body, breath and senses. During meditation, one may experience energetic openings, increased awareness, and vitality moving through the spine and subtle energy centers (called the “chakras”). The meditation is followed by a brief talk and participant inquiries/comments.

*Please bring: a meditation pillow if desired. Chairs supplied by the center

✨ Hosted by: Lawrence Bell

Lawrence’s journey in meditation began in 1998 when he met and studied with Bruce Joel Rubin in Los Angeles. Bruce is a student of Swami Rudrananda (“Rudi”), a Kundalini Yoga teacher who had brought the essence of Eastern tradition to a Western world in the 60s and 70s. Rudi had dubbed his form of teaching “the work”. Within a relatively short time of experiencing “the work”, Lawrence shifted the trajectory of his life to one that aligned with a passion of helping others.

Over the last 25 years, Lawrence has been inspired by the works of Jiddu Krishnamurti, David Bohm, Alan Watts, Eckhart Tolle and the philosophy of non-dualism. He believes that we all hold treasures within, that we are all each other’s teachers, and that the essence of wisdom and evolution can be found within the structure of relationship itself and a deep desire to grow. There is no “where” to get to in spirituality and our humanly “imperfections” are the perfect catalyst for growth.

Lawrence is also a licensed Chiropractor and breath facilitator practicing in Troy, MI

Meditation (generally speaking) is:

The act or practice of sitting still while observing one’s state of being. In self-observation, one may discover certain sensations, thoughts, emotions, breathing patterns, tensions, openings or other phenomena that were previously unknown or hidden. Over time and with practice, these discoveries continue to unfold, creating a shift in one’s overall awareness. This shift in awareness may come with an increase in physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. Through meditation, we are able to discover and clear deep seated patterns or distractions “running the show” while tapping into a well of energy or inspiration that can transform our lives and awaken us to the essence of who we truly are.
