AOM: Activated Observer Meditation

  • CenterPeace Troy 2609 Crooks Road Troy, MI, 48084 United States (map)

First time participants – Please arrive at 6:45 PM for and intro to the class

Class:  7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

About the event:

This unique class combines an ancient Eastern tradition (a 4,000 year old eyes-open meditation technique facilitating a rapid expansion in one's spiritual development) with heart-centered discussions about spirituality, psychology, physics and the significant role relationships (inner & outer) play in one’s health and wellbeing.  Although meditation (or observation) in itself can be a passive process, it is the active aspect of meditation this class explores and expounds upon.

During class, one may experience spontaneous openings in the bodymind,  movement of energy through the spine & subtle energy centers (called the “chakras”), increased awareness, emotional release, clarity of mind, vitality, and a fullness of heart and being. The meditation is followed by a brief talk and participant inquiries/comments.

*Please bring: a meditation pillow if desired. Chairs supplied by the center

✨ Hosted by: Lawrence Bell

Lawrence’s journey in meditation began in 1998 when he met and studied with Bruce Joel Rubin in Los Angeles. Bruce was a student of Swami Rudrananda (“Rudi”), a Kundalini Yoga teacher who had brought the essence of Eastern tradition to a Western world in the 60s and 70s. Rudi had dubbed his form of teaching “the work”. Within a relatively short time of experiencing “the work”, Lawrence shifted the trajectory of his life to one that aligned with a passion of helping others.  Over the last 25 years, Lawrence has been inspired by the works of J. Krishnamurti, David Bohm, Nassim Haramein, Alan Watts, Eckhart Tolle and the philosophy of non-dualism.  He is also a licensed Chiropractor and breath facilitator practicing at CenterPeace-Troy in Troy, Michigan.

Meditation (generally speaking) is:

The act or practice of sitting still while observing one’s state of being. In self-observation, one may discover certain sensations, thoughts, emotions, breathing patterns, tensions, openings or other phenomena that were previously unknown or hidden. Over time and with practice, these discoveries continue to unfold, creating a shift in one’s overall awareness. This shift in awareness may come with an increase in physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. Through meditation, we are able to discover and clear deep seated patterns or distractions “running the show” while tapping into a well of energy or inspiration that can transform our lives and awaken us to the essence of who we truly are.
